Iconic designer and avid sunglasses wearer CARLA ZAMPATTI is collaborating with Specsavers on a chic new range of frames.
CARLA ZAMPATTI can’t say how many pairs of sunglasses she owns. “I don’t like to count,” she says with a laugh. The designer is something of a connoisseur, with an extensive collection that started in the ’60s with a pair of oversized Dior frames and some gold Cartier aviators. “I have kept all of my vintage sunglasses — I hate throwing them away — particularly when I’m fond of them.Many I lose, of course, as one does,” says Zampatti, who, after cataract surgery some years ago that made her eyes particularly sensitive to glare, is rarely seen without a glamorous pair of frames, whether she’s taking a bow at the end of her biannual fashion shows or attending one of the many events on Sydney’s social circuit.
