Has your line of work shaped your sense of style?
When I started out, I wasn’t immediately an antique jewellery dealer; I was dealing in pots and pans. That’s how I learned my art, my eye, fine-tuned things, and learned about history and how everything relates; the aesthetic of a culture, of a time. That’s how I can put [an outfit] together and know that it’s cool, know that it works for me.
Are you influenced by anyone?
My only reference apart from myself is Keith Richards. Back in the day, I loved the way he would tie and knot, and wear mismatched things. But of course, the days when his styling was the best was when he was with [German-Italian actress, model and artist] Anita Pallenberg. He’d get up in the morning and put something on, and it would have probably been something amazing that she’d had from a shoot that she was doing with some fantastic brand—a floppy satin shirt that would have been made by [designer] Mary Quant or whoever, and he would just wear it... the perfect coat hanger.
Where else do you find inspiration?
My colour inspiration comes from nature, but it’s been fine-tuned by spending so much time in India because they’re amazing at clashing.
You have a large Instagram following—a lot of people are obviously inspired by how you dress.
I think people are inspired by me because I have a bolshie attitude. I’m not frightened to speak the truth.
