Want to go on a girl’s trip and don’t know where to start? Well, gather your friendliest femme fatales for a weekend of relaxation and Hollywood glamour on the foothills of Mount Kenya. CAROLE MANDI did just that and writes all about it.
Inspired by the hugely successful comedy, Girl’s Trip, and courtesy of the Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Kenya, my seven girlfriends and I went off to Mount Kenya Safari Club for a weekend of fun, food and female bonding.
One warm weekend in March found us lugging our bulging suitcases packed with weekend wear that included flirty dresses, Safari chic casuals, flats, hats, heels and plenty of sunscreen to the Fairmont the Norfolk Nairobi. It was from here that we were scheduled to set off for the road trip in the hotel’s courtesy van.
After exchanging a few niceties with the very pleasant Group Marketing and Communications Manager, Ms. Njeri Chege, and the dapper and efficient Mr. Guillaume Durand, the Group Director of Sales and Marketing, we were soon on Thika Highway, happy to leave the city’s traffic jams behind. For a few days, we could forget about schedules, deadlines, bosses, employees, children, husbands and partners and just be girls again.
We played our favorite playlist and sang along and danced on the bus, each one of us anticipating the exciting weekend that lay ahead. Before long, Nairobi, Thika, Embu et al was a distant memory as we approached the rolling hills of Nyeri and we couldn’t help but let out a whoop of joy when we entered Laikipia county. Ever so regal, with its tips in the clouds, Mount Kenya welcomed us as warmly as it has welcomed the world’s royalty and Hollywood celebrities. It was on its foothills after-all, that Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton.
