Strong, Focused & Unbroken
TRUE LOVE Magazine East Africa|August 2017

It’s easy to talk about your successes. But what about your failures? KTN anchor and media personality Betty Mutei Kyallo speaks candidly to CATE ODERA about the mistakes she made in her life, the gossip that continues to swirl around her, and her new focus as a mother and businesswoman.

Strong, Focused & Unbroken

When I finally meet Kenya Television News anchor Betty Kyallo after months of tailing her for this interview, she tells me that the time is right. She wants to move on past her hurts, past the whispers and gossip, and lay her heart bare to TRUE LOVE readers. No spin, just the real deal.

Betty has had a hard time of it lately on social media. Kenyans have said some scathing things about her. There’s been talk of men, money and cars, quick weddings and even quicker divorces. That seems like a whole lot of living and loving for someone so young. But we aren’t really interested in gossip. At TRUE LOVE, we have always taken the view that women are far more interesting than just the sum of their parts, that it’s about the heart, the mistakes made, the lessons learned, the road ahead.

And so it is when I meet Betty, young yes, but with the maturity of someone twice her age.

Back in February 2014, Betty graced the cover of TRUE LOVE magazine for the first time. It was the Valentine’s issue and she was accompanied by her then fiancé Dennis Okari. At the time, she was a newbie in the world of TV at KTN and he was an investigative journalist at the same station. The pair seemed like a match made in heaven and as the interviewed ensued, they flirted and giggled their way right through it. It was evident that they were excited about the prospect of life together. Wedding fever was in the air.

But at the time, Betty now confesses, there was something she wasn’t telling us. She didn’t really want to do the TRUE LOVE interview.
