MY LIFE settled down this week, after a mad few weeks, giving me time to do a bit of my own fishing, and nothing competition-related.
I had a trip planned to Linear Fisheries, near Oxford, and I know that the carp up there love feeding on sweetcorn and Cell boilies.
I dropped into a shop for some ‘yellow stuff’, but I didn’t need to pick up any boilies, as I already had some in my freezer. Before setting off to the venue, I blitzed a load of boilies in a grinder, covering the resulting tasty bits in Smart Liquid, before adding a load of sweetcorn.
Once at the lake, I would cover this feed in lake water, the idea being that I would be feeding ‘washed-out’ bait that looked as if it had been out in the lake for hours.
The fish in the lakes at Linear are put under a lot of angling pressure, and this bait preparation is a little edge that has worked well for me in the past.
I managed to get away from work early on Friday, which enabled me to be on the banks of Linear’s St Johns Lake by noon, where I tied up three solid PVA bags loaded with Pineapple Goo, as I wanted to try to ‘nick’ a bite.

Making Short Work Of Specimen Chub
It takes angling guide Kenny Parsons a few hours to drive from his home, near Bath, to his favourite Wessex rivers, but it doesn’t seem to bother him, as he just loves to catch big chub on feeder and fl oat tactics, his personal best standing at 7 lb 12 oz. One of his favourite methods for this cunning species is a maggot feeder with a short hook link.
