AS I WRITE, we are both in France, getting among some big fish, but more on that next week.
Before we went away, I was back at Linear Fisheries, near Oxford, for a long-overdue trip, as I had been promising Fred and Paul that I would take them fishing, and this was our chance to get together.
Fred is 80 years old, but has never caught a 20 lb carp, so my mission was to help him catch one. I called Ian Roper at Linear, to see if he could save us a few pegs on Brasenose Two. We wanted to fish close to each other, as it would give Fred the best chance of catching a 20.
After meeting up with Paul on Friday, we loaded our vans with gear, before embarking on the two-hour drive to the venue.

Making Short Work Of Specimen Chub
It takes angling guide Kenny Parsons a few hours to drive from his home, near Bath, to his favourite Wessex rivers, but it doesn’t seem to bother him, as he just loves to catch big chub on feeder and fl oat tactics, his personal best standing at 7 lb 12 oz.
