Picking The Brain Of Andrew Gardner Of Melosh Lures
Musky Hunter|October/November 2019
During the recent ICAST show I was able to catch up with one of the best (in my opinion) bait builders in the world, Andrew Gardner. I am betting that a lot of you have not heard much about Andrew, who is the mastermind behind Melosh Fishing Lures. Do yourself a favor and Google that right now ... you’ll be stoked you did!

Picking The Brain Of Andrew Gardner Of Melosh Lures

MHM: How’d you come up with the name?

AG: Melosh is a character I drew as a kid ... an alien species from the planet “Anchovia” who loved to fish.

MHM: What got you started making baits?

AG: My dad specialized in fish wood carvings which drove the passion I have today with creating fishing lures, decoys and decorative carvings. I carved my first fish when I was about eight years old, a brown trout.

MHM: What was the first bait you made?

AG: Tying flies was my first step toward making my own lures. The first hardbait I ever created was a topwater mouse.

MHM: What music are you listening to while you paint right now?

AG: I know this will not be the normal response, but I listen to R&B when painting; ie. Boyz II Men, Jagged Edge, etc.

MHM: Whoa ... I didn’t see that coming! You’re a pretty mellow dude though, so that makes sense.

MHM: Any bait shop mishaps you want to share?
