Hair problems is possibly one of the most major problem faced by women all over the world.
There are hardly any women in the world who can claim that they have not suffered from any hair problems in their life.
However, statistics show that men are much more likely to experience hair loss than women do. Permanent hair loss affects 70% of men and 40% of women in their lifetimes. With all these statistics, it is clear that it isn’t just a woman’s concern, but more so with men.
Causes of Hair Loss
Hair loss in men can affect not just the scalp but on the entire body. It can be the result of heredity, environmental patterns like food, diet patterns and life style patterns like stress and sleep deprivation.
One can assist good hair growth by eating a healthy, balanced diet. Getting plenty of iron, zinc, Vitamin D, protein and omega-3 fatty acids from food can aid hair growth and keep the hair follicles healthy. Limiting stress as much as possible, sound sleep and supplementary vitamin tablets are also beneficial.
Diagnosing Hair Loss
Shedding hair is completely typical and simply part of a hair’s ordinary development cycle. Hair develops in stages: Growth, Static and Falling phase. At any given time 10-15% is in a growing stage, 30-45% in static stage and 10-15% in falling stage. When the percentage of hair falling exceeds the percentage of growth, it results in Thinning of the hair and can lead to Baldness if not taken care of.
Most people have about 1,00,000 hairs on their head and lose around 100 to 125 hairs per day. When the loss exceeds 125 hairs per day, it’s no longer just considered “shedding”.
Treatment of Hair Loss
Hair related diseases, Fungal infections, alopecia (Baldness) also affect hair loss. Before beginning treatment, such issues need to be addressed and need to be ruled out.
