Over the years, Annelise tried out various weight-loss diets, without success. Until 2018…

Annelise, pictured here with her husband, Johan Kleinhans, says she has never felt lighter or more energetic.
When she was younger, 41-year-old Annelise Kleinhans from Port Elizabeth developed an unhealthy relationship with food, often turning to it for comfort in stressful times. ‘I was never a skinny girl as a teenager,’ she says. ‘I picked up some bad habits early on because I went through a difficult time: my parents divorced when I was quite young and then my father passed away when I was 14, so it was a challenging time.’
Annelise continued to struggle with her weight well into her mid-twenties, and would easily fall into old snacking habits when life became hard. ‘Both my husband and I have a stressful job and we work long hours. We also tried to start a family but it didn’t work out, so there was a lot of stress and worry surrounding that. I kept trying to lose weight, but when I felt the emotional strain, I would slip into my comfort zone and eat the wrong things.’
Since going low-carb in 2018, Annelise has realised the importance of a holistic approach to a healthy diet.
