Yoga will come to the rescue when we least expect it
Towards A Better Life through Yoga And Mindfulness

During the mid-nineties, I was seeking refuge from the turbulence I was personally going through at that point in time. Just like the way a drowning person seeks to anchor herself with whatever she can hold onto, I wanted to hang onto anything that would prevent me from sinking into the depths of depression. Yoga was the first thing that came to my mind as the perfect go to solution.

One of my colleagues suggested that if I was really keen on learning Yoga, I must go to the oldest organized Yoga Institute in the world that was located in Santacruz, close to my then work place in Mumbai. I acted upon her suggestion immediately and over the next few weeks, I would periodically drop by the Institute after work.

When I entered the Institute premises, the first thing that struck me was the serenity of the place. Soon the impact of the overall environment- the silence that spoke more than the words; the sound of the collective deep breaths; the Asanas aimed at greater flexibility of the body and mind slowly started working, and I found myself more relaxed than ever, in years. I discovered that the Institute attracted people from all walks of life, across all age groups, both from within and outside the country. However, as they sat next to each other on those mats, everyone turned into a Sadhaka of yoga.
