It’s perfectly natural not to feel an instant bond with your newborn immediately after birth. You will be feeling exhausted and sore in sensitive places, and it’s instinctive for a mother to focus on her own recovery after birth.
You can’t protect or care for your baby if you’re physically exhausted. On the second day after birth, you will be better equipped to ”take in” your new baby and may want to spend hours simply looking at her – it’s hard to believe she is truly yours. On the third day (which coincides with your milk coming in), while you may be experiencing a little bit of baby blues, you’ll probably be feeling more confident and loving towards your baby. Many moms also find it easier to build a bond once they get home, away from the bustle of the maternity ward.
