Autumn Afternoon – Beechworth

STEP ONE

Using a light Ultramarine Blue, I block in the composition of the painting – checking that the allocations of sky, middle ground and foreground are in balance.

STEP TWO

My method is to start from the top and work down; therefore the sky is my first task.

From the photograph, the sky is washed out – I know it consisted of wispy white cloud. I will put that in using Ultramarine Blue, Transparent Red Oxide and Cadmium Yellow Light with Titanium White for the wispy cloud effect.
