Megan and Ashley Knight’s airy home has been reworked to give them the space they wanted for a modern lifestyle
Every Sunday, when family and friends gather round Megan Knight’s generous dining table for a long lunch, she realises just how successful the recent reconfiguration of her Twenties semi has been. Megan and her husband Ashley bought their Hove home in 2004, but a few years ago it became clear that they needed to rework the space to suit their needs. ‘I’d inherited my grandmother’s lovely old crockery and had pieces stored in the living room and in boxes under the beds,’ says Megan. ‘We’d also accumulated a lot of personal keepsakes over the years, which we wanted to properly appreciate and display. Ultimately, we needed a more functional house that looked good and felt relaxed when friends came to visit.’
The Knights had plans drawn up by local architect Claire Haigh, to convert the loft and extend at the rear. However, they also wanted support to plan the interior space. A friend recommended meeting with interiors architect Emma Capron of Bean Interiors. ‘At first, we thought using Emma might be a bit extravagant,’ says Megan. ‘But Ashley and I wanted to be absolutely sure we made all the right financial decisions.’
