PRACTICAL AND PRETTY. Designer Stefani Stein makes the most of every inch of a family of four's laundry room.

Is your laundry room a chaotic space you only frequent because you must? We can relate! To start off the year in a fresh and neatly sorted manner, we asked designer Stefani Stein, who created this polished and practical space, for her guidance on making the most of any laundry area.

CB: We love this laundry area! Please tell us more about the home and its occupants.

Stefani: A family of four, along with a cat and dog, lives in this home in Southern California. The home has California Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, but the clients wanted something fresh-not your typical brown-and-beige, Spanish-style home. So, we went with something unexpected yet still complementary to the style.

CB: The pullout baskets are such a neat idea. How are they used?

Stefani: We included the pullout baskets so that clean laundry could easily be folded and sorted and then transported to each person's room or linen closet as needed. Even if you're in a hurry, laundry can be quickly placed in the baskets and folded later—which we all know happens.

CB: All the storage is amazing! Do we see pet accommodations too?
