1 SMART EXTRACTION

It can be tricky to create a satisfactory extraction solution in a low-ceilinged room. Sandy and Camilla felt that an island hood would block the eyeline across the room, so the compact ceiling unit was an unobtrusive choice. Its slimline shape fits neatly between the ceiling joists, with concealed ducting running to the outside of the property.

2 BOLD COLOUR

The dark blue-black painted finish of the cabinetry creates instant impact. ‘Strong colour adds interest and character,’ says Camilla. ‘This room has a relatively low ceiling, given the age of the property, and not a huge amount of natural light, so it can be tempting to pick light shades. But that can end up making a space feel bland, whereas this dark hue creates tremendous depth, while the mirrored splashback acts to reflect the available light back into the room.’
