It’s been a wonderfully colourful autumn here and, after a couple of bouts of heavy rain, the trees have begun shedding their foliage and leaf collecting has begun. They’re put into a large bag – kept after delivery of a ton of gravel – and left to make leaf mould.
In the past we’ve used black bags but, with all the negative press surrounding the use of plastic, we decided to try something new. Time will tell if it works!
We’ve treated ourselves to an electric lawn raker, as hand raking almost 300sq m (359sq yd) of grass was becoming a bit of a chore – and it’s done a fine job of removing all the accumulated thatch. Pete has now begun spiking it – with a fork. Hard work but it delivers the best result.
