Dining areas are one of the most-used spaces in a home, so it’s no wonder homeowners want them to look good and feel great. For comfortable dining, the area also requires good lighting. Besides, investing in well-considered lighting can make your signature dishes look even more delicious and provide flattering lighting for sharing food photos online.
How can we complete the dining area’s functional needs while elevating its style? Pendant lights are like statement jewellery, says Megan Zhang, M Atelier’s interior design director, who adds that they anchor the room and add a different texture. “Pendant lights help fill the void and add interest at eye level. However, do not hang too many in the same space or near other details and feature walls.”
Terri Tan, design director of Designworx Interior Consultant, says to ask yourself: “Is the pendant light the only source of illumination, or are there sources of ambient light, too?” and “Is the area constantly enclosed and air-conditioned or naturally ventilated?”
Pendant lights are part of a comprehensive lighting plan for your home. The multiple light sources will influence the ambience, draw attention to features, and accomplish tasks.
Marc Wong, creative director of Linear Space, recommends buying your dining table and chairs before purchasing pendant lights, so they will be proportionate to the table and chairs.
MINIMALIST PICKS
The minimalist lines of these lights allow them to make a statement or enhance your interior design concept subtly.
