Opened in summer this year, Mondrian Shoreditch London is the latest addition to the Mondrian portfolio of hotels. Designed by award-winning interior and hospitality design studio Goddard Littlefair, it is decked out in cheerful, vibrant colours, expressive art installations and statement lighting – creating a striking design statement right from the moment guests walk in the door. True to the Mondrian brand, it reflects the rich history and colourful social fabric of the area.
The Mondrian currently has five hotels around the world, including locations like Seoul and Los Angeles. More are coming up, including one in Singapore’s Duxton estate.
Much of its design inspiration comes from art and literature on the region, including the well-known rhyme Oranges and Lemons – which isn’t just about the churches in the neighbourhood, but the larger East London area of the past as well. “The longer version paints a wonderful picture of the city in the 16th and 17th centuries. The influence can be interpreted in the design of the interior in many different elements from lighting to materiality,” says Jo Littlefair, the co-founder and director of Goddard Littlefair.
