FSND Architects treat an empty apartment shell as a canvas for captivating interior design.
It’s not often that homeowners would want to trade a 4BHK for a 3BHK apartment, but that’s exactly what Sohil Valia and Rajesh Kathe, principal architects of FSND Architects had to accomplish for this flat in Mumbai. They, along with associate interior designers Divya Rupreja and Avinash Sali, turned to judicious space planning and meticulously assembled colour palettes to make the 2,000 sqft space come alive.
“The space planning was governed by important needs which had to be catered — to have the maximum amount of storage units along with minimalistic aesthetics,” says Valia. Kathe, his partner, adds, “The design thought was to keep the entire colour palette neutral, with pops of lively colour in various spaces and forms adding a warm and welcoming blend of colours.”
Much like many other Mumbai apartments, this house had its rooms connected by a central passage, which formed its main circulation route. “This was a raw flat, so all the walls were constructed as per maximum utilisation of spaces,” says Valia.
