Sisters Lucia and Nelisiwe Maseko have combined their unique style in one of Johannesburg’s most sought-after heritage buildings
#MYJOBURG
As brand communications and digital lead at Nike, Lucia Maseko is embedded in the cultural and social offering of Johannesburg. With everything in close proximity, Lucia says she finds herself all over Joburg, depending on what the city and its people serve up. ‘I can be at the Feel Good Series in town or Black Olive House in Maboneng (a pop-up kitchen and catering service), or at Breezeblock and The Bantu Roving Kitchen in Brixton. I’ve done Emoyeni for jazz Sundays to death, I love the Great Eastern Food Bazaar in Melville for quick dinners, Royale in Craighall Park and A Streetbar Named Desire in Rosebank for drinks with friends.’ Nelisiwe works full time in wealth management, but also has a side business called Pink Mustard, which sells accessories such as sunglasses and earrings at markets and trunk shows. The Maseko sisters love spending Saturdays driving around the city, going as far as Clearwater Mall to look for what Lucia calls ‘wake-up-andcleanse days’ to revitalise and change up their home. ‘We have our go-to spots, but we love discovering new places – even online, which Nelisiwe is especially good at,’ says Lucia. Many parties have been thrown on their building’s rooftop and in the flat – from Nelisiwe’s 30th birthday to Lucia’s long-table dinner. And on Sundays, music is enjoyed loud from their record player while watching the sun set on the balcony.
