When mum-of-two Marie Nichols feels the need for space to think, plan and be creative, she heads down to the bottom of the garden…

Marie, 39, an interiors stylist, lives in a three-bedroom 18thcentury cottage in Yalding, Kent, with her husband Simon Ward, and their sons Albie, six, and Freddie, three.

‘This is my quiet space for thinking and coming up with ideas. Technically, that makes it a workspace, but it doesn’t feel like work. This is the private hideaway everyone dreams of.

I use it for trying out new styling ideas. Things get added, then taken away again on a regular basis. Simon sometimes complains about the number of twigs, bits of foliage and piles of cushions I have indoors. Here, I can do exactly as I please. Nobody can complain because it’s all mine!
