Shades Of Teal
Ideal Home UK|November 2019
This chameleon colour shifts from warm and cocooning to fresh and invigorating, depending on the orientation of your room and the colours you pair it with. We asked colour experts for their dos and don’ts…
Shades Of Teal

Well balanced

‘Teal is the middle point between blue and green so our eyes need little or no adjusting to it, giving a sense of calm,’ says Helen Shaw, UK director at Benjamin Moore.

Aissa two-seater sofa in Neptune smart velvet, £1,730, Sofa.com. Merial coffee table, £330, Perch & Parrow, is similar. Small velvet and linen backed cushion in Coral, £35, Graham and Green. ABOVE Millbrook Hampshire 8000 divan set in Plush New Teal, £2,319; Nicholson table lamp, £199; Connection scatter cushions in Soho Steel, Soho Mushroom and Soho Buttercup, £80 for two; Corelli cushion in Royal Blue, £35, all Furniture Village. Try Cocoon blanket in Ochre, £69, Wallace Cotton

Cosy retreat

‘Use teal in spaces you retreat to – whether that’s a living room or bedroom. Teal can feel restorative and bring a feeling of cosiness, even in the brightest of rooms,’ says Helen Shaw.

Tie it together

‘Layering different tones of blue and green together avoids colour clashes,’ says Jody Hudson. Teal is a fail-safe accent to add, ‘because it sits in the centre of the colour wheel,’ explains Helen Shaw.
