Relaxing in comfortable seating in this lovely garden, surrounded by blooms and rustic aged garden walls, is like being transported to another time and place. Part of the charm of this Balmain garden is its ability to gracefully incorporate existing aged elements of the space and then infuse them with new life and personality.
The owner wanted to create a relaxing garden space that reflected her love of Southern Highlands gardens and one that payed homage to its current Balmain location. Brian Fuller, designer and owner of Leaf Stone Water, says the material choices acknowledged the heritage characteristics of the house and the Balmain locale. “There’s also a nod to rustic charm in preserving the old perimeter walls,” he says.
The garden was designed to be enjoyed from both indoors and out as it can be viewed from the living room of the home. The rustic stacked brickwork that makes up the courtyard walls is cool to the touch, with climbing vines reaching skywards towards the sun.
