A home in the beautiful natural vistas of the North-East is exactly the stuff that dreams are made of. Ahmedabad-based architects Archana and Amit Shah have turn this dream into reality for Rakesh Nahata.

Spread over an area of 5,000 sq. ft., Rakesh Nahata’s home in Guwahati, Assam, is a luxurious two level terrace apartment. It has a lovely view with an adjoining terrace on each floor. It allows the lush surrounding to become a part of the overall home decor.

Lighting inside this home is very subtle; and has been added through indirect forms in the design. “Also, we have procured fixtures to create a controlled low-level lighting environment. Even in the bathrooms, there is beautiful indirect play of lights, which helps in setting the perfect ambience,” says Ar. Archana Shah. The use of decorative chandeliers is seen in the main seating area and dining room. The dining area has an onyx wall specially created as a decorative focus element, which is further accentuated by indirect lighting. Likewise, seamless Italian floor flows throughout the house. The master bedroom has been done up with a leather finished floor tiles to add on to the luxurious feel of the house. Son’s bedroom has been done up using a wooden floor to complement the brick wall in the room.

All the other areas of the house including the kitchen, daughter’s room, study room, lounge and passage use Italian flooring. “Different materials have been used for different areas. We have used finishes that are light and fresh, with earthy textures. The material palette overall includes use of marble, stone wood, glass, fabric and metal,” explains Amit.
