The ability of the user to interact with an interior is of primary importance; better still when the interior can help to improve the owners' well-being, especially after a tiring day, says LH Chan, principal designer of TDC & Associates. The user-friendliness of a space is important because the interior is a living hub and not a cold display piece. A beautiful interior is only the by-product. All these qualities and more are embodied in the projects by the local firm, which is known for crafting impeccably elegant and timeless abodes in Singapore, Shanghai, and beyond.
This beautiful apartment in Singapore's East Coast neighbourhood is a prime example. The owners, who work in the financial industry, chanced upon the exquisite work of the design firm in a magazine and loved what they saw, so they hired the firm to transform the interior of their four-bedroom apartment.
The 1,600 sq ft unit offers soothing sea views from the living room and master bedroom and is within walking distance of East Coast Park. However, the home was already 20 years old. The kitchen was run down, and the windowless bathrooms were dark and gloomy.
A dramatic makeover was needed to create a relaxing and stylish interior that the couple would be proud to show off to guests during their frequent gatherings. The kitchen was of importance as well, as the wife enjoys cooking and baking. TDC & Associates rose to the challenge to create an interior that achieves style and function with equal aplomb; much consideration was given to how the owners would use the space.
