If there is ever a room more suited to unleashing your creativity, it’s your child’s room. But with hundred of options in terms of decor, it is confusing on where to start. We spoke to industry experts for ideas that will inspire your own design
Decorating a kids room is like chasing a moving target. As they keep growing and discovering new interests and hobbies, their room should be able to withstand plenteous wear and tear more than any other room in the house. “For children, their room is like their world. They can simply crash on the bed, paint all over, play with their friends or just relax. It has to be a reflection of their personality otherwise they will fail to build a connection with the space,” states Parul Mittal, Director-Design & Marketing, Greenlam. Whether you are planning to design a room for an infant or refurbishing the space of a growing kid to fit its changing needs, we have brought you some really smart ideas that will help you build your child’s own private sanctuary.
Wall to Wall
It comes as no surprise that most of us believe a kid’s room should have ample amount of colour. Whereas neutrals score up to be a popular choice for kid’s space these days, as the palette manages to create a soothing environment without being harsh or overwhelming. “Consult your children when choosing colours for your home and especially for their room, as they will feel involved in the process, giving them a sense of independence. Softer tones such as lemon, lime, and orange are cheerful and childlike, yet easily evolve to accommodate teen years by simply swapping accessories,” suggests Ram Mehrotra, VP-Sales and Marketing, Kansai Nerolac. When it comes to decorating walls the options do not limit only to wall paints. If you are a fan of wallpapers, we suggest a wall clad with wallpaper will bring in just the right amount of vibrance.
