Left-back Calvin Miller hit a hat-trick as Celtic got their Youth Cup campaign off to an impressive start.
NO goalkeeper enjoys conceding six goals in a game but Ryan Mullen was certainly not downhearted following Celtic Under-19s’ UEFA Youth League defeat against Bayern Munich recently in Germany. The young Hoops may have lost 6-2 to the hosts but that scoreline failed to tell the story of the contest at the FC Bayern Campus.
Full-backs are a crucial part of any team in the modern era of football and the Celtic Youth Academy is yielding a steady flow of them. Calvin Miller has emerged as another promising talent and the young left-back is putting in the kind of performances that he hopes will merit future opportunities in the first-team.
On Sunday, the Development Squad travelled to Clackmannanshire to begin the defence of their Scottish FA Youth Cup in a third-round tie against Alloa Athletic. The young Hoops dominated the game from start to finish, scoring eight goals without reply, with Miller netting a hat-trick.
“I was really pleased with my performance and that of the whole team,” said Miller in an exclusive interview with the Celtic View. “It’s always good to get on the score-sheet and to score a hat-trick is special. I’ve had a couple before so it’s nice to add to that.
