A WORD WITH THE MANAGER
BRENDAN Rodgers’ Celtic side are on the brink of making history this week as they prepare for a big European away tie before embarking on what is fast becoming something of a festive tradition in a pre-Christmas League Cup final.
This week will play a big part in deciding the course for the rest of the season, but the manager insisted he and his players would relish the pressure that comes with being in the spotlight.
Hearing that Celtic are on the brink of history has become a familiar statement for fans in recent seasons, which serves to highlight the remarkable achievements of this Celtic side under Brendan Rodgers.
Familiarity is the common thread tying this week together. Celtic play Norwegian champions Rosenborg for the sixth time under Brendan Rodgers’ managerial rein. And they have yet another cup final to look forward to with Aberdeen lying in wait at Hampden in what will be the third final between the two teams inside three seasons.
Thankfully, Celtic come into this week on a high having extended their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership with a convincing 3-0 win away to Hamilton. It was the first game back following the international break, but the disruption didn’t appear to curb the momentum behind the team, and now two crucial games are on the horizon.
“It’s a great week for football, the players and the supporters,” said the manager. “We have a very important game in Rosenborg and one that we’ll be really looking to get a victory in. And then, of course, we come to our first cup final of the season. It’s a huge week for us and one that can really kick off this busy period for us in a positive way.
