Eddie Wolecki Black takes over the women’s set-up at Celtic Park

New Man At The Helm

EDDIE Wolecki Black walked through the doors of Paradise last week as the new Head Coach of the Celtic Women’s First Team.

A very successful and highly-regarded coach, Eddie brings with him a wealth of experience that will be beneficial to the club. His 14-year tenure at Glasgow City, in particular, proved to be an extremely successful one, and he won four Leagues, four League Cups and four Scottish Cups.

The 54-year-old will join Celtic from Motherwell, where he is currently managing their women’s team, and he will take up his new role at Celtic next month.

A former professional footballer who played for Montrose during his career, he began working as a coach under Jim McLean at Dundee United before guiding Lochee United to the Junior Cup final in 2005.

He joined Glasgow City in 2001, and over the next 14 years ensured that they became the most successful team in the Scottish women’s game. During that time, he also managed Montrose for a year.

He took over as manager of the Airdrie senior team in 2015, but less than a year later suffered a stroke during a game against Cowdenbeath. He has shown tremendous bravery and courage to return to football, which he has done as manager of the Motherwell Women’s team.

Eddie Wolecki Black said: “It is a huge honour to join a club of Celtic’s stature and I look forward to doing all I can to bring success to the women’s team. I know that Celtic has a real commitment to women’s football and in developing its team further, and this is something I really wanted to be part of, at one of the world’s great football clubs.
