Goa: Paradise In The Rain
Condé Nast Traveller India|August/September 2016

You've partied here through the winters and beached out during the summers, but little do you know that Goa is just as charming in the monsoons. And if you think that you’ll have nothing to do during your stay, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at what this coastal state offer.

Goa: Paradise In The Rain

Goa stands favourite for its rich Indo-Portuguese heritage, nightclubs, beaches and everything else under the sun. But even when the sun is not around, the crisp air and yellow fringes in the grey sky manage to leave travellers mesmerised. So, while you’re contemplating a Goan sojourn in the rains, allow us to tempt you further with a plethora of things that you can do here, once you arrive.

Ride the Rain

Hire a bike and explore the sylvan country sides of Goa. The sight of picturesque rice paddies, forests, verdant areca plantations, gurgling streams and gently swaying coconuts palms soothe your soul, offering you that much-needed respite. Stop by at a tea stall and sink your teeth into a chorizo-pao, a pork-stuffed bread-roll that’s a local delicacy.

Trekker’s Haven

Nothing beats exploring the Goan landscape like a good trek in the rains. Goa Tourism organises Sunday Trekking as part of its monsoon expeditions from mid-July to August. The 7km Shivling Experience offers two steep climbs, several little cascades, swarms of mud-puddling butterflies and the unadulterated natural beauty of the waterfall that takes the shape of the mythical Shivling. Buses depart from Paryatan Bhavan in Panjim at 9am and 8am from Mapusa Residency and Margao Residency.
