Condo living is popular in Singapore, and with recent rent hikes, more and more of us are downsizing into smaller spaces. But maximising space on small balconies can be a bit of a style challenge. Hanging planters and wall-mounted vertical gardens are a fabulous way to add a touch of nature without sacrificing precious floor space. Work multifunctional pieces into your set up, too, like a foldable bistro table that can serve as an eating area or a workstation, and storage benches that double as seating for when you have extra guests around.
#2 Large outdoor spaces
If you're lucky enough to have a sprawling outdoor area, think about curating a series of inviting outdoor zones. Designate areas for dining, lounging and perhaps a cosy reading nook. Hello, hanging chair! It's worth investing in well-designed, quality outdoor furniture that's both functional and meets your personal style aesthetic. Visually define these different rooms with outdoor rugs, which also have the added benefit of offering comfort for barefoot tropical living.
