Grazia got exclusive access to the all-new cast of your favourite web thriller. Set for a reboot in Mexico, it will chart the rise and fall of the kings of cocaine
In every captivating web television crime drama, by paradigm, there is a protagonist and an antagonist. The prior is the gallant lead who is victorious in his heroic exploits, while the latter is typically the underdog we inadvertently root for. Such was the fabled tale of cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar. The bona fide Netflix fanatics can relate, having devoured three gripping seasons of popular series Narcos. While the first two had us on tenterhooks following the journey of Escobar, the third gave us an insight into the inner workings of the Cali Cartel in the post-Escobar era. Both seasons were shot in Medellín, Columbia.
For its latest season, the show has undergone a reboot as Narcos: Mexico – an entirely new series. As the name suggests, the series shifts base from Columbia to Mexico to chart the rise of the Guadalajara cartel – a mammoth drug empire in Mexico, and the foundation of the modern Mexican drug war. Helmed by Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, essayed by the enigmatic Diego Luna, the cast includes Michael Peña – who assumes the role of US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent Enrique ‘Kiki’ Camarena. Camarena shifts base to Guadalajara to disintegrate the burgeoning cartel and gathers intel through his extensive network of informants. Things go south when he digs deeper, leading to a series of gruesome events that continue to affect the drug trade and the war against it till date.
