Help the less fortunate and save the planet by having your celebrations at these venues.
Besides the usual considerations (budget, size, location, menu, etc) when selecting your reception venue, why not think of the less fortunate or try minimizing your carbon footprint? Here are some venues that offer socially conscious or eco-friendly practices to make your wedding even more of a good cause.
ANDAZ SINGAPORE
This chic hotel (actress/model Sheila Sim gave it her stamp of approval when she held her nuptials there with banker Deon Woo in 2018) is helping to save the planet with a host of initiatives. These include reducing the use of electricity by making full use of natural lighting at its venues (The Glasshouse, which has floor-to-ceiling windows on all sides and holds up to 280 guests, is one of them). Beverages come with biodegradable straws that are made from wheat stems instead of plastic.
As for the menu: Dishes are made from cage-free eggs from a local company; up to 80 percent of seafood is certified to be sustainable; and organic edible flowers and other forms of garnish are obtained from Cameron Highlands in Malaysia, as opposed to Europe or Australia, which minimizes carbon footprint. 5 Fraser Street, tel: 6408-1234, e-mail: singapore@andaz.com
ARTEMIS GRILL
Perched on the 40th floor of Capitagreen, with floor-to-ceiling glass windows and outdoor space, Artemis Grill offers gorgeous views of the city area, mouth-watering Mediterranean cuisine, and stylish space for modern couples.
Besides being housed in a building that’s known for its green efforts, including rainwater harvesting and using energy-efficient high-performance glass panels, the restaurant doesn’t fall far behind with its own practices. The Tulip umbrellas you see at the outdoor terrace bar are designed to maximize the use of rainwater that goes through the venue and recycled within the building.
