If you’re looking for a fixed-blade for edc or defense, choose one from this doublestar trio.
There are three things you really do with a knife: cut stuff , stab stuff and take things apart. As it would happen, Doublestar has started producing knives that do all of these things extremely well.
All three of these fixed-blade knives are made in the U.S. from top-quality materials. They are full tang with Kydex sheaths and are built primarily with EDC and defense in mind.
HYDRA FANG
The Fang is the smallest of the three, but also the one that focuses on the most all-around usefulness. The blade is 2.875 inches long, with an overall length of about 6 11/16 inches. The blade is 1/8 inch thick and features a chisel-ground, tanto-style shape. The handle is G-10, riveted on, with a cap lifter and large lanyard ring in the back.
The Fang is the most practical for the everyday carry (EDC) folks who are looking for a small fixed blade for daily chores. The knife handles all your routine cutting tasks easily and carries extremely well. The knife, in the Kydex sheath, is only 1/2-inch wide at the thickest point—most of it is much thinner. It carries in a jacket pocket, behind the wallet or from a neck lanyard very well. The Fang in the sheath is lightweight and I found it worked perfectly for me on my non-wallet side, back pocket, behind a bandanna. The knife was always there, and I never found it in the way.
The Fang does come with a Tek-Lok belt attachment. The Tek-Lok is a great piece of kit, but I found it too large for the Fang’s slim profile. If I needed to carry it in on my belt, a simple loop of 550 cord did the trick. It kept things tight to my belt and the Fang disappeared under a t-shirt. The retention was good, but for upside-down neck carry, a date with the heat gun was in order. I only heated the very end where the knife is secured, pinched it a little tighter and that did the trick. After that, upside-down carry posed no problems.

KITCHEN KNIVES DON'T HAVE TO BE DULL
I have a confession to make. See if this sounds familiar. I take meticulous care of the knives I use for everyday carry, hunting, and general woods wandering. I wipe them down with an oily cloth after use and I never let them get too dull. Seldom do I have to restore a damaged edge. Most of the time I simply touch up the edges of my pocketknives with a few careful strokes across the rough bottom of a ceramic coffee cup. That’s usually all that’s needed. I don’t use my knives as screwdrivers or pry bars. As a matter of fact, I still have the very first knife I ever owned, an old Boy Scout knife that was handed down from my older brother. The blades have a deep patina that comes with using carbon steel over the years, but the knife is very usable still.
