HEAVY ON VELVET
Fashion witnessed a heavy resurgence of velvet everything such as suits, turtlenecks, outerwear, and accessories. Jared Leto and Andrew Garfield wore sleek velvet tuxedoes with polka dots by Gucci. Similarly, Timothée Chalamet debuted his most daring look yet-a Haider Ackermann's custom jumpsuit in red. The fabric brings a lustre and lively look even if it is as basic as an overcoat.
For celebrating Christmas and New Year, include some bits of velvet along with shiny embellishments, and you're ready to take over. The trend was also present at runways - robes at Etro, blazers and trousers at Magliano, and coats at Officine Generale.
GOING SHIRTLESS
Suiting up has always been big, but this year, ditching the shirt is the new twist. Debuted by celebrities such as Simu Liu, Shawn Mendes, Harry Styles, Jonah Hill, and Lil Nas X as well as seen on the runways of Dries Van Noten, Louis Vuitton, Heron Preston, and Balmain, it is safe to say that going shirtless and just putting on a suit on its own or blazer jacket is an ultimate hit.
EASY SUITING
Ditching the regular suit is the new norm of 2022. A relaxed or loose eased down suit has taken over this season. It's functional comfort is the goal here without comprising style, obviously. These unstructured pieces are less rigorous and easy to move around, a perfect option for year-end parties or Sunday brunches if looking for a plush look. Seen at Zegna, Giorgio Armani, The Row, Prada, Versace, and others, loose suits have also been a staple on red carpets in '22.
