Don't You Cry, My Baby!

You like and love everything that is associated with your newborn. Her little cooing, that toothless grin, her innocent eyes, soft touch of her skin, her cute antics. But the only thing that breaks your heart is her cry. You would do anything to comfort and soothe your baby, cuddle her, cajole her, feed her, sing to her or even take her out for a ride to get the smile back on her face. But know that little bit of shedding of tears is good and a sign that all is well with her. Here we tell you why crying also has its own importance.

SOUND CHECK

Remember the time you heard her first cry, right inside tthe labour room? Instead of being panic-stricken, you were happy to hear those shrill cries announcing the arrival of your angel. This cry was a reflex action. A sudden inspiration of air and a forceful expelling of it through the vocal chords vibrated, to produce the first sounds of your baby that we call ‘cry.’ This cry states that your baby’s systems are working fine and ready to take on more. Once her lungs are filled with air, a newborn can initiate crying with very little effort.
