Egg freezing is the answer to the burning question: when do you want to have a baby? A combination of science and technology have now made a medical marvel possible. Women waiting to settle down or those in pursuit of a high-fl ying career, and want to postpone having a baby, have the option of freezing their eggs. Find out all about this new-age procedure.
FACT, FAD OR FICTION?
What do stars like Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Love-Hewitt and Sofia Vergara have in common? These Hollywood A-listers have openly spoken about their fertility choices and have chosen to freeze their eggs. In an interview with Vogue, Modern Family star Sofia Vergara and the highest paid television actress revealed in an interview that she began freezing her eggs when she turned 40, four years ago.
Now, if you think that this elective fertility preservation procedure is just another Hollywood fad, think again. Even Silicon Valley giants such as Facebook and Apple are encouraging their female employees to freeze their eggs. In fact, Facebook and Apple both cover the procedure as part of their insurance benefits.
But, the question remains, should you be considering freezing your eggs too? The answer is most definitely! Married or not, if you are a 30-something woman and don’t intent to start a family anytime soon, egg-freezing is perhaps your best option. The fact remains, a woman’s biological clock is relentless. Her fertility or her probability of getting pregnant during a year falls from 86 per cent at age 20 to 52 per cent by the time she turns 35. Thereafter it drops to 36 per cent by age 40 and five per cent by age 45. From the point of reproduction, the ideal age for any woman to have a baby is when she is in her twenties. In fact, the earlier the better. This is the age her reproductive organs will be at the peak of their conceiving capacity. Late marriages tend to cause problems during conception and might complicate childbirth.
