The Queen’s Animals

Royal Furriness

The Queen is very fond of her pet dogs and at one point, Her Majesty had eight corgis running around.

Her father, King George IV, first bought a pup named Dookie in 1933. On Elizabeth’s 18th birthday she was given her own corgi named Susan. She loved the dog so much she began breeding pups and the rest is history!

Royal author Phil Dampier said: “It’s often said that the Queen likes horses, dogs and then humans in that order!

“That probably stems from her childhood when she and her younger sister Margaret led an isolated existence, being taught at home, and not having many friends. They became close to their pets instead and the Queen’s love of animals has been a lifelong love affair.
