AFTER A TRAUMATIC YEAR FIGHTING CANCER, THE WEBSTER FAMILY HIT THE JACKPOT

‘WE WON OUR WEDDING!'

Becky and her fiancé Beau Webster were overjoyed when they discovered they were expecting their second child together.

The happy couple from the Gold Coast were excited when they booked a doctor’s appointment to confirm the pregnancy. While there, Beau decided to have a check-up, too. But nothing could have prepared them for what happened next.

In his early 30s, Beau was in good shape, but he’d lost a bit of weight and was having some stomach cramps.

“He put it down to work being stressful and not having time for the gym,” Becky, 31, tells New Idea. “And then when he threw up a few times, he assumed it was from a kebab or too many beers.”

There was always a reasonable excuse. Becky says he never would have gone to the doctor, had they not been going for the baby anyway.

“When the doctor pressed his stomach on the left under his ribs, Beau said it was sore,” Becky remembers. “The doctor said it felt weird and he needed a CT scan. I was quite positive about it, but Beau started to stress.”

And rightly so – a CT scan showed a large, dark shadow in his bowel. When he woke up after a colonoscopy in January 2018, doctors told him he had a fight on his hands. Beau had stage 3 bowel cancer.
