Lionnel Lim speaks to four yummy mummies on what Mother’s Day means to them, how their children have impacted their lives, and how they in turn appreciate all that their own mums have done for them
STEPHANIE LEE
Director at a family investment holding company
Stephanie Lee is always poised and elegant, even with two young kids – Max, who is turning three, and 16-month-old Isabelle – running around and constantly bombarding her with questions. She and her husband, Choo Ken-Yi, are blessed to have their parents and in-laws, as well as their helpers, to lovingly care for the two tots during weekdays to allow her to concentrate on work.
“I make it a point to see my children before I go to work, and spend more time with them after or between meetings. They are a motivation for me to wrap things up as efficiently as possible, so I can head home to spend quality time with them, reading, singing, walking or having them sit with us during dinner.”
Weekends are almost always spent with the kids before it’s lights out at 8pm; it’s then couple time for Stephanie and Ken-Yi. She shares that “nothing else matters, except for your children’s health and happiness. Seeing them laugh and grow well eradicates all forms of stress and worries. These things teach me to slow down, be present, and embrace all that life and God have to offer. If it is God’s will that I have more, definitely. Children are such a blessing and bring so much happiness to our lives.”
What’s changed after having children?
My priorities changed, and there is a purpose in life – I’m responsible for my children and it’s no longer just about myself. Everything is new again, and I’m continuously learning and re-experiencing things through the eyes of my children. Sure, I have less time to spoil myself – my time is focused on spending quality time with my children and husband – but I would not have asked for anything different.
