Edinburgh leads the way in worldwide New Year celebrations
IF it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – that seems to be the maxim of Underbelly Productions, the live entertainment company which has taken over the running of the Hogmanay celebrations in Edinburgh.
“No way are we trying to totally reinvent the whole Hogmanay festival,” says co-director Ed Bartlam. “We’re keeping the much-loved parts of it, like the torchlight procession, the street party and the concert in the gardens, but giving them a bit of a refresh and a reboot. We want to make it a real carnival atmosphere.”
With bands, DJs, street dancers, flash mobs and acrobatics, it’s going to be a party with a capital “P”!
“It’s an important event for the whole of Scotland. But we’ve got the best backdrop to work with. Where else can boast such a setting as Edinburgh with its castle and gardens? The way we describe it is like Scotland inviting the rest of the world to the biggest party in the world.”
