TV news anchor and UN Refugee Goodwill Ambassador Leanne Manas, 44, chats about family, success, and the secret to a good marriage
Leanne lives in Joburg’s northern suburbs with husband, Marc, and kids, Alexandro, nine, and Gabriella, six.
What’s your earliest memory? Roadtripping to Durban with my mom, dad, and older brother when I was seven. It seemed so magical to doze off on the back seat leaving Joburg, only to wake up, what seemed like moments later, to be greeted by the best sound: the sea!
Did you have a career plan B? I wanted a career in radio as a DJ, if you can believe it! I studied journalism, and qualified in speech and drama. I often auditioned for radio, but nothing bit. It was only when I sat in a newsroom that I realised my passion for anchoring. My plan B was to move into teaching – something I’ll still consider for the future.
Best decision you’ve ever made? By far the best decision I’ve ever made was having kids. They mean the world to me.
