Dorrell served as wide receivers coach last year and deserves a lot of credit for the breakout season of DeVante Parker and the quick emergence of rookie free agent Preston Williams.
The Dolphins announced they hired Gerald Alexander as defensive backs coach, Anthony Campanile as linebackers coach and Lemuel Jeanpierre as assistant offensive line coach. Josh Grizzard was promoted to assistant wide receivers coach, and Rob Leonard was moved from linebackers coach to as assistant defensive line coach.
Alexander will become the 11th person in franchise history to both play and coach for the Dolphins. He played two games at safety for Miami in 2011.
The latest coaching moves came exactly one month after the Dolphins announced the promotion of Josh Boyer to defensive coordinator and the hiring of longtime NFL coach Chan Gailey as offensive coordinator.
Also hired were Robby Brown as quarterbacks coach, Austin Clark as outside linebackers coach, Curt Kuntz as assistant defensive backs coach and Steve Marshall as offensive line coach.
“Chan is innovative and well respected around the NFL as a great teacher and offensive mind,” Flores said of Gailey. “I know from competing against him how tough his offenses are to defend. I look forward to the leadership and experience his years as a head coach and directing offenses will bring to our staff.”
Alexander, Campanile, Clark and Kuntz will be first time NFL coaches.
New tight end
In the days before the combine, the Dolphins also added some depth at tight end by signing fourth-year veteran Michael Roberts.
