Jon Rahm produced a stunning finish to the start of a memorable month of links golf.
YEARS FROM NOW when historians review the 2019 summer of links golf, Shane Lowry’s win at the 148th Open Championship at Royal Portrush will justifiably dominate a thoroughly memorable three-week narrative. An Irishman hoisting the claret jug on home soil nearly 70 years after the major was last played in Northern Ireland takes some beating after all. Dig a little deeper though and those same historians will study Jon Rahm’s second victory in three years at the $7 million Dubai Duty Free Irish Open with almost the same reverence.
The 24-year-old Spaniard’s closing 62 at stunning Lahinch Golf Club will be remembered as one of the rounds of the 2019 European Tour season, enabling Rahm to roar from five strokes back starting Sunday to a two stroke victory over Andy Sullivan and Bernd Wiesberger.

AMATEURS OFTEN STAND OVER THE BALL with their feet too wide apart. I understand the appeal—they want to feel more stable throughout the swing, and a wider stance seems a logical way to achieve that.
