Loynton Trout fishery has provided quality fly fishing for over 30 years. Who better to guide us around its three lakes than resident instructor steve yeomans.
Loynton Trout Fishery, located at Loynton Lakes Resort, Staffordshire, has a 30-year history of providing fly anglers with quality fishing in a pristine environment. The venue’s excellent facilities make it popular for travelling anglers, short breaks and corporate events, with the aptly named Tickled Trout restaurant, farm shop and caravan site being recent additions to the site.
My own association with Loynton Trout Fishery goes back 25 years, when I first visited, attracted by the venue’s big trout. Since 2004 Loynton has played a larger role in my life, as a core venue for my fly fishing tuition and guiding business, Midlands Fly Fishing.
The fishery comprises three spring-fed lakes totalling 12 acres of water. While all lakes are stocked with rainbows, browns and blues from 2lb to 20lb plus, they often fish differently, depending on weather and time of year. An abundant population of small roach results in significant fry feeding throughout the year. This, combined with the popularity of the famous ‘Loynton Guinea’, results in many anglers focusing on fishing lures. However, this mature fishery hosts a wealth of insect life, so ignoring the huge potential for excellent nymph and dry-fly fishing is a mistake.
