Sports were a big thing for you growing up, when did music come into it?
"It was mostly sports, but if I look at every period of my life there's always been a type of music that defines it. Very early on, when I must have been five, Busted was my first obsession. I really liked sports, but I heard Busted and was completely obsessed. I remember having a little CD player with one of their CDs, and I would try to fall asleep listening to them because I loved them so much. In my mind, it was like, 'If I truly love them, I'd be able to sleep with them on'. I don't know why I thought I needed to prove to myself that I was the biggest Busted fan ever like that, but I was obsessed. My first concert was when I went to see them when I was five, and I went with my mum. The only memories I have of it was that everyone was screaming, and I didn't understand. I was like, 'Mum, why are they screaming? I can't hear anyone. McFly were supporting them, and it was great but I couldn't hear a thing. I was really short, so I remember standing on chairs and being lifted up trying to watch them. When Busted broke up that was a massive heartbreak, I literally took down their posters from my wall. I was like, 'Why would they do that?'. At some point in that phase though, I really wanted to learn how to play guitar, so I asked for an electric guitar for Christmas. I got an acoustic guitar because my parents thought it would be too loud, and then maybe a week later my friend came round and tried tuning it but did it so tight that the neck snapped. I could have been playing guitar from the age of five, but my friend broke my guitar, and I just didn't get another one. Either before or after that though my mum also told me that whenever we got in the car and they didn't play Green Day, I would cry until they played it. I have no memory of that, so before I even remember, I was into this kind of music."
