It is the first specialized university in the country offering programmes in creative disciplines in the Fine Arts and the built environment. Located centrally in Hyderabad, it offers UG and PG programmes in the traditional disciplines like architecture, painting, sculpture, applied art and photography and also unique innovative programmes in urban planning, facilities and services planning, digital techniques, interior design and animation. These market-oriented programmes are designed in response to current technology and trends and demands in society. It has also emerged as an important centre for research.
In addition, the University has affiliated other institutions which are also based on industry needs and seek to inculcate skills to make students employment-ready. These are VFX, Film and Media, Fashion Design etc.
The University has developed a strong regional position and offers courses at the postgraduate level in almost all its departments. The alumni of the College who have occupied prestigious and responsible positions in various organisations stand as a unique testimony to the college.

This Department has produced several well-known artists. It is committed to a rigorous art training and a deeper understanding of visual art. The curriculum is designed to explore the nuances of a wide range of mediums. The focus is on understanding art, art history and criticism, artistic styles and techniques. Practical studies teach the basics and techniques of drawing, oil painting, watercolour, acrylic and printmaking (graphics).
