TRANMERE ROVERS pulled two Christmas crackers to inch them ever closer to the play-off places – but boss Micky Mellon wasn’t tempted by a celebratory festive tipple!
The turkey will certainly taste good tomorrow for the Rovers fans who made the long trip south, however, as they saw their side make it three league wins on the bounce to move them two points outside the top seven.
Mellon’s side have been creeping up the table and the manager admitted after they needed to get a result against a Sutton side who are putting a promotion bid together of their own.
A stunning free-kick from defender Adam Buxton was cancelled out by Kenny Davis’ header before Connor Jennings arrowed in a wonderful volley on the stroke of half-time. Andy Cook gift-wrapped the three points in the 90th minute for a job well done. So was Mellon going to treat himself to a glass of red wine?
