Charles is said to have made the gesture at Buckingham Palace on Saturday during a family lunch.
Prince Harry, 38, was reportedly offered the chance to join him at the Palace, but instead headed home in time to celebrate his son Archie's birthday in the US after a swift exit from the Coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
The majority of the Royal Family were said to have "breathed a sigh of relief" that Harry had not joined them for the lunch.
But the King, 74, seemed "genuinely quite disappointed that he didn't stay," one source reportedly said.
