Matt Hancock last night offered care workers lacking protective kit a “badge of honour”.
The Health Secretary said it would let them “publicly identify themselves” as NHS staff do.
But the GMB union said: “Care workers need more than a badge to define their precious role in society.” And one carer at a nursing home group where 11 have died said they are so short of protection that staff fear for their lives. She begged: “Help us, please.”
The UK death toll yesterday rose by 761 to 12,868. Nurse Mary Agyeiwaa Agyapong, 28, left, died after giving birth. Her daughter survived.
Fury at Hancock’s ‘badge of honour’ for stressed staff
AS stressed-out care workers fearing for their lives plead for more protective equipment, Matt Hancock yesterday offered them a badge – sparking outrage.
